The German U-1
I learned that the U-1 was one of the earlier German U-Boats. Also I found out that compared with other ships of its time, the U-1 was relatively small. It held three torpedoes and it also only had a crew of ten men. Through many trials, the Germans found out that the U-1 was not suitable for open ocean use. Therefore it was only used for coastline exercises. The U-1 never got to see heavy combat action due to the fact that its kerosene engines produced heavy amounts of white smoke, which made the ship very visible.

The Great White Fleet part 2!
Today I learned that The first of these ships were commissioned in 1900, and the most recent of the ships commissioned in 1907. The displacement ranged from 11,500 tons to over 16,000 tons, the Connecticut class being almost 100 feet longer than the Kearsarge class. I also learned that throughout the entire journey, The navy sent out post cards which provided the people with a way to see all of the wonderful places that the fleet went.

The Great White Fleet
So far I have learned that the Great White Fleet, was sent around the world by President Theodore Roosevelt from 16 December 1907 to 22 February 1909 consisted of sixteen new battleships of the Atlantic Fleet. The battleships were painted white except for gilded scrollwork on their bows. The Atlantic Fleet battleships only later came to be known as the "Great White Fleet.". The squadrons were manned by 14,000 sailors. They covered some 43,000 miles and made twenty port calls on six continents.
